We (myself, Bernie and my mom!)met with Oncologist team yesterday! First Treatment is Thursday, August 23rd at 8:30 AM!!!! I will have my central port put in on Tuesday, August 21st at noon! Going to be done via ultrasound and something to just numb the area which will probably be in the area of my right upper chest (opposite side of the cancer and surgical site!) Central Port will stay in for entire treatment....which will be 20 weeks.....starting on 8/23 that will take me into the first week of January 2008! I received all my prescriptions that I could need...nausea-Compazine; relaxation-Ativan; Pain Control-Vicoden. I have blood work on Saturday August 18th and also need to see a dentist before the 23rd....then I will be ready. Dentist is a precaution...since I can have no dental work done during treatment!
On the 23rd...I will see nurse practitioner first, have some quick blood drawn so all levels can be checked...red & white cell counts, etc...then down stairs to treatment area....I will be given an anti-nausea injection of Palonstitron(Aloxi) and then the Chemo...Adriamycin/Cytoxan (AC for short)...this will take 3 to 4 hours to administer...then I go home! I return 24 hours from when Chemo completion and will receive an injection of Neulasta which is a white cell booster. They explained all the different possibles of side effects and that if I get by day three feeling fine then I'm clear!!! Some side effects do not show right away that's why they say give it 3 full days! Only definite side effects that I will have are Hair Loss and Feeling of Fatigue!!!! All other side effects are possibilities not definite!!! One thing I learned that was shocking....I can't even have 1 beer during this!!!! Chemo uses your liver to work through your body and any alcohol can effect it...so although I'm not a big drinker...I do like my Corona every now and then!!!!! I guess I'll have to get my fill of beer over the next 2 weeks!!!!!
Caitlin and I went for our manicure/pedicure day yesterday afternoon, no more of them during this treatment either (need to stop anything that could possibly cause infection or bleeding!!!!) And today is hair cut day! I found 3 different wigs that I liked, hung them up at work and everyone voted on what I should get....here is the link showing the style...http://www.tlcdirect.org/products/sku-7968__dept-83.html
So today I am getting my hair cut just like the picture so when it starts falling out I can shave it off and have the wig ready with same style!!! I have not decided on actual color yet...but maybe I will go completely blond!!!! As I told many of you....wig is just because I will have times when being bald or wearing a hat are not appropriate...I don't intend of wearing all the time....but I guess I will not decide that completely until I look at my self in the mirror for the first time!!!
Got to go....it's 10:15 now and hair cut is at 11:00!!!
