Central Port Update

OK...it's all done! Central Port is in place! So far OK, although a little pain into my neck area behind the ear. Port was placed in main vein on right hand side shoulder area. I have two incisions, one right near my neck line and another little lower! Since first treatment is on Thursday, they left an open line since area will be sore from the incisions so the port can not be used as completely intended until treatment #2. I go back next Thursday to the doctor who placed the port and she will remove the the steri strips and then I should be good to go for the next 20 weeks! Actual procedure wasn't bad...noon time appointment, was in the procedure room around 12:45 and back in recovery area by 2:00! They gave me a Valium and then some other stuff through IV to relax me, so I guess that did the trick although I was awake through it all, but they did have a "curtain" up so I could not see anything! NO pain through it just felt the movement and tugging! I did feel the last stitch being put in but not too bad. Just glad it's over! One more piece of this puzzle is completed! The doctor that put the port in was real nice, talked to us before the procedure and showed us the actual port...Bernie was very impressed, I think he would have loved to have been in the room and watched, but it's a very sterile procedure since going into to main vein can possibly cause major problems!!! Oh by the way I'm BLUE...the cleaning solution they used was blue and they cleaned everything!!!! Should be fun tomorrow since I can't take a shower! I have alcohol pads to clean up some of the area, but will not be able to do much until they remove the line after my treatment on Thursday!!! No Smurf Jokes tomorrow Don!!!!!

OK so count down is now on....less then 48 hours to first treatment, actually just under 39 hours!!! A few more things to finish up at work tomorrow....then to d-day...or I think I'll call it C-Day...for Chemo Day!!!

Here's picture of how the port is put in: I was even given a Medical Alert Card which states: I have an implanted vascular access system! I guess I'll send off all kinds of alarms if I go through security screening!!!!
